Notice of Appeals of Member Discipline

April 11, 2025

Members

Dear Member:

This email serves as the notice of appeals of discipline under Article X.B., Section 8 of the WGAW Constitution. Following the 2023 MBA Strike, the Board of Directors disciplined six WGAW members who were found guilty of writing during the strike by trial committees, each consisting of five Current members of the Guild. In July 2024, the Board also publicly censured a WGAW member found guilty by a trial committee of violating the WGAW Constitution.

Disciplined members have the right under the WGAW Constitution to appeal their discipline to the membership at large. Four of the disciplined members have filed appeals: Julie Bush, Timothy Doyle, Edward John Drake, and Roma Roth.

The appeals will be submitted to Current members in good standing by online ballot, and will be decided by a majority of those members who cast online ballots. The question presented to the membership, for each appeal, is whether to uphold the disciplinary action imposed by the Board or to adopt an alternative action proposed by the appellant.

Information regarding the appeals can be found on the Appeals Webpage. (You will need your myWGA login information to access this page.) There, you will find for each appeal (1) the ballot question to be decided; (2) position statements (an opening statement and reply) on behalf of the appellant and the Board; (3) the disciplinary charges; (4) the trial committee’s report; and (5) a record of the Board's action imposing the discipline.

Voting-eligible members will receive an email containing a link to the online ballot shortly before voting opens. Voting by online ballot will open at 10:00 am PDT on May 6, 2025, and will close at 2:00 pm PDT on May 9, 2025. The results of the appeal will be communicated to the membership after the close of voting.
